Carnival Magic (2011-built, last refurbished in 2021 May, Fun Ship 2.0 refurbishment in 2016) is the second of all 3 Dream-class Carnival cruise ships - together with Breeze and Dream. Included in that space are flotation and mud treatment rooms, a huge thalassotherapy pool, and thermal suite with tepidarium, laconium, Oriental and aroma steam baths, and a relaxation lounge. Although the thermal areas are only available for a fee, there are complimentary saunas and steam rooms in the men’s and women’s changing rooms. One of the new entertainment attractions on Magic include a new comedy club, to be held in the 425-seat Burgundy Lounge.
Entertainment & activities
Due to scheduled drydock refurbishment projects, in September 2020 CCL canceled all planned for 2020 and 2021-Q1 itineraries for 4 ships. Prior to the COVID crisis, Carnival Magic was homeported in Galveston TX for 7-day roundtrips to the Bahamas, Eastern, and Western Caribbean. Feature port destinations included Key West Florida, Jamaica, Nassau, Belize, Mexico (Progreso, Cozumel, Costa Maya), Roatan, Grand Cayman. Cucina del Capitano is Carnival’s older Italian restaurant, while RedFrog Pub is much like the free BlueIguana Cantina (think Mexican and Latin-inspired eats, along with the well-known cocktails from the same regions).

The Lido Marketplace offers international flavors at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Almost every type of cuisine is offered on one day or another, including Italian, Asian, Tex-Mex, tandoori, and all sorts of deli sandwiches and salad-fixings. A magically blissful adults-only area that's available to guests 21 years of age and older; it features everything necessary to create the perfect "me-time" moments. A trip to the salon is an opportunity to relax, to chat with others, to focus on yourself. It’s about more than just getting your hair or nails done… but it’s definitely about getting your hair or nails done!
Fellow Passengers
There are a lot of pin lights of different colors, but you won’t be over-stimulated as you might be on other Carnival ships. Take a look at this photo gallery to help you envision your perfect vacation. The interior decor of the Carnival Magic is bright and fun, although not quite as over-the-top as some previous Carnival ships. Principal designer Joe Farcus seems to have gone for a slightly more subdued look, which Carnival guests still love. Don't worry, the cruise line hasn't sacrificed one bit of fun, with some memorable touches. The Carnival Magic sails seven-day cruises year-round to the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Mexico from its home port in Port Canaveral, Florida.
Many passengers struggle to decide between Carnival Magic and Carnival Breeze when looking at Caribbean itineraries. Both are Dream-class ships, which means they’re similar in size and offerings. However, Breeze has a cuter color palette in cabins and features an additional for-fee restaurant, Bonsai Sushi. Since the differences are pretty small, it will be down to price for most passengers. The ship features a 1/2 mile wraparound promenade deck with spectacular scenic views, charming staterooms, and exceptionally friendly and accommodating staff.
The main Showtime Theater presents outstanding production shows featuring beautiful costumes and Vegas-quality light shows, but even the smaller venues have great acts and music, particularly the sing-along piano bar. More interactive activities include numerous bingo games, art auctions, ballroom dancing, karaoke, and “game show mania”. Carnival Magic, Deluxe Ocean View staterooms are a great choice for families who want to let the sun shine in as they sail. Rooms in this category feature great views, a full bathroom - plus a separate washroom - and while stateroom configurations vary, certain Deluxe Ocean View rooms have space to sleep up to five cruisers. Carnival Magic's Porthole staterooms give you the classic seafarer's view times two - a pair of round windows providing an affordable view of the ocean. If you tire of ocean-gazing, there's plenty more to do onboard, but 24-hour room service is one amenity you can enjoy as you continue to take in the view.

Those looking for a comparable itinerary and family-friendly vibe without the crowds are often drawn to Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas, which is slightly bigger and carries fewer passengers. Cabins on Mariner are more stylish and family entertainment is somewhat more impressive, but prices can be a little bit higher on Royal Caribbean’s cruise liner. Cucina del Capitano® is where you’ll want to go if you want to enjoy authentic Italian food, served up family style for that true family dinner feeling.
Grand Suite
Two of the three ships — Carnival Breeze and Carnival Dream — also have sushi eateries, while Carnival Breeze and Carnival Magic have Carnival's Caribbean-inspired watering hole, RedFrog Pub. Carnival Horizon, Carnival Panorama and Carnival Venezia also have teppanyaki restaurants, and all four ships have dedicated chef's tables located within their galleys. However, Carnival's biggest ships also sail with more passengers, which can be a turnoff if you're the kind of traveler who likes a more intimate experience. Now, Carnival is switching gears — no doubt because the giant ships unveiled by some other lines have been enormously popular with cruisers. Carnival Magic’s burrito bar is also sure to be a popular spot where guests can create an overstuffed wrap featuring their choice of chicken, beef, shrimp, salsa and other accompaniments.
In fact, the ship has been specially designed to offer the best in activities and entertainment. Balcony staterooms were designed for maximum sea breeze and the most stunning views, so look to a balcony if you're looking to cruise aboard Carnival Magic. Any time you're in your room, you're just steps away from your own personal outdoor oasis, featuring the sort of sea view you can also feel. Vacationers looking for a big resort experience with a lot of options should choose one of Carnival's newest ships, which are bigger and have more amenities. If you're looking for more intimacy on a cruise ship, some of the older classes of ships, such as those in the Spirit class, might be just right.
The Fun Hub is a social network and shipboard Intranet portal that provides access to a variety of information on Carnival Magic's services, facilities, and daily activities. Carnival Magic also offers cell phone service and bow-to-stern WiFi, so those bringing along their own computers can access the Fun Hub and surf the Web from their own cabin or common area on the ship. On sea days, Carnival Magic's outdoor Lanai area on deck 5 transforms into an on-deck barbecue, dishing up grilled items such as sliders, chicken, and hot dogs. Salads, homemade chips and salsa, quesadillas, and traditional barbecue accompaniments are also included. Carnival still has its classic alternative Prime Steakhouse on the Carnival Magic.

Modern cruisers enjoy much larger vessels than these ships, which are now basically considered mid-range. When Carnival Magic appeared on the scene in 2011, the cruise industry sat up and took notice. The two Fantasy-class ships that are left are mostly used in secondary ports — such as Jacksonville, Florida, and Mobile, Alabama — that might not be able to support bigger vessels. Built in the 1990s, the Fantasy-class ships are Carnival's oldest and smallest ships, and the line is in the process of phasing them out. It removed four of them from its fleet soon after the COVID-19 pandemic began, and this year it removed two more — Carnival Sensation and Carnival Ecstasy. Carnival's Dream-class ships are roughly the same size as its Vista-class ships, and the two classes have a lot in common.
The Play It Again Piano Bar is a popular spot; quiet when the pianist is not playing, but full of fun (and singing) when he is. Vibe is the name of the dance club, and everyone loves the lighted tables and purple mood lighting. Of course, you can find a drink at the RedFrog Pub or Ocean Plaza bars, both on deck 5. The Lanai on deck 5 is a half-mile outdoor promenade encircling the Carnival Magic, with easy access to the Ocean Plaza, RedFrog Pub, and other indoor areas of the ship. The Lanai also has seating and wind deflectors, making it a pleasant place to sit even on windy days.
New “cove” balcony staterooms, located closer to the water line, offer up-close sea views and a bit more interior space. Also new are deluxe ocean-view staterooms featuring a unique design with five berths and a two-bath configuration that includes one full bathroom and a second with a combination tub/shower and sink. Every cabin has adequate closet and drawer/shelf storage, as well as bathroom shelves. High-quality linens, plush pillows and duvets are a luxurious touch in all accommodations.
In addition to sprucing up just about every space on the ship, the money was used to add classic Carnival attractions that the ship lacked. This included a full-blown water park, which replaced a single waterslide on one of its top decks. Originally designed and ordered for Italy-based Costa Cruises — a sister brand to Carnival — the ship is actually a sister vessel to Costa's four Concordia-class ships.
Magic’s public rooms are breathtaking, with its imposing atrium covering ten decks and glass elevators to the Pool deck. The Song Jazz Lounge features one or two musicians playing classics of the 70’s, 80’s on the stage near its small dance floor. Sam’s Piano Bar, a sing-along piano bar, is close to the Caliente Dance Club.
